Voting has now ended, but I’m still going to plug these amazing EMF Young Artists!  YouTube does an annual, I think, symphony competition and the 2011 competition featured at least four EMF alumni.  We’ve been voting for our alum all week; only time will tell if they’re the winners of their respective instruments.  If they do win, they get to travel to Australia in March 2011 to perform with the YouTube Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House.  What an amazing experience for any young musician – we with our Big Four the best of luck!

Also, one big announcement for all of our future EMF Young Artists in 2011!  Remember that if you apply by midnight on December 31, 2010 your application fee will be $40.  After that the fee increases to $60.  You do not have to submit your recording, just the online application portion.

Discover Your Best @ EMF!

The Holiday Season is upon us...starting with the best holiday ever (in my humble opinion) - Thanksgiving!  What do you have to be thankful for this year?  I, for one, am thankful for Eastern Music Festival on so many levels!

While you're home over the holiday break, trying to procrastinate on any homework and studying you may have to do, check out Eastern Music Festival's 2011 Student Catalog.  You can write to us (info@EasternMusicFestival.org or Melissa@EasternMusicFestival.org) for a physical copy of the brochure or you can check it out online, in pdf or flash.  The flash version is fun, because you can actually flip the pages of the catalog.  (Am I the only one who is easily entertained by this fact?) 

Here's the link to the pdf version as well as the flash version.  The catalog has all of the information about studying at EMF this upcoming season, including a little peek at a few of our guest artists!  (Hint...if you can't wait until January for the official announcement then read through the catalog!)  Even though our office will be closed Thursday and Friday, if you have any questions go ahead and email or call and we'll be sure to get back to you on Monday! 

Last year the students were phenomenal and I know that this year they'll only get better.  EMF is the best summer music camp in the country - period!  If you don't believe me, ask our young artists :) 

And for future reference, we are going to use this blog as both for our Young Artists as well.  Whenever Melissa, the Director of Admissions, has anything she'd like me to discuss in detail, I'll post it here with a link on Facebook.  We encourage you to interact, so feel free to comment both on Facebook as well as the blog.

Autumn Has Arrived @ EMF

Hey everyone - sorry for the delay in posting since September.  We're working hard over here in the beginning stages of the 2011 festival and I keep getting more and more excited.  I started with EMF three days before the 2010 festival opened, so this has been a giant learning experience - seeing how much hard work and dedication goes into making the best five-weeks for you guys that we possibly can.  When I'm allowed to start sharing artist information with you guys, I will!  Until then, I'll try to leave hints and "bread crumbs" to get ya'll as excited as we are :)

How many of you guys have noticed the changes to the website?  I finally learned (Thanks to Melissa, our Director of Admissions) how to use our software and have been trying to update our press releases, news stories and schedule gradually over the past few days.  It's still a work in progress!  We've also updated our way of doing Constant Contact emails...each week (Thursday's to be exact) EMF will be sending out a "Musical News" email that  features upcoming events in the area - both EMF and non-EMF programs.  The Piedmont community features so many talented arts organizations that we believe it's just a important to support and promote them as it is Eastern Music Festival.  "Musical News from EMF" doesn't want to overload you with information, or bombard your inbox - rather, we want to keep you informed of all the wonderful activities, organizations and news going on during all year.

In EMF School news, we have condensed our Admissions pages - instead of having a separate "Admissions" twitter, Facebook, and blog accounts they will be incorporated into the main EMF accounts (listed at the bottom).  So that means this blog will also feature school information - which I think will be educational and entertaining to anyone interested in EMF.

What An Amazing 49th Season!

Thanks to each and everyone for their support during our 2010 49th EMF Season!  There are so many events that I want to highlight and it's hard to know where to begin.  Highlights include our amazing Saturday Festival Orchestra Series guest artists Lynn Harrell, cello, Barry Douglas, piano, Tianwa Yang, violin, William Wolfram, piano, and Gil Shaham, violin.  We had so many amazing artists performers this season including:

One of the biggest performances (or should I say two!) of the year is our Young Artists Orchestras "Young Artist Concerto Competition Winners" concert.  Divided between two nights, our Young Artists series showcases the best and brightest young musicians the classical world has to offer.  They come from all over the country and the world, from as far away as Israel, Taiwan, Bulgaria, China, Latvia, Switzerland, and Panama to North Carolina, New York, North Dakota, Florida, Texas, California, and Hawaii!
The six Concerto Competition winners for 2010 are:

 As we wind down the 2010 season, we want to thank each and everyone who participated in EMF, whether you attended 1 or 100 of the concerts!  Your support and dedication are what keep the festival and school going year after year.  The upcoming 2011 season will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Eastern Music Festival & School...keep checking the blog, facebook and twitter for updates throughout the next few months!
