What An Amazing 49th Season!

Thanks to each and everyone for their support during our 2010 49th EMF Season!  There are so many events that I want to highlight and it's hard to know where to begin.  Highlights include our amazing Saturday Festival Orchestra Series guest artists Lynn Harrell, cello, Barry Douglas, piano, Tianwa Yang, violin, William Wolfram, piano, and Gil Shaham, violin.  We had so many amazing artists performers this season including:
  • Joseph Kalichstein, piano
  • Rebecca Penneys, piano
  • Marian Hahn, piano
  • John Alexander, organ
  • Susan Bates, organ
  • Andre Lash, organ
  • The Greensboro Opera featuring Stacy Dove, soprano; Anne Claire Niver, mezzo-soprano; Timothy W. Sparks, tenor; Steve Jepson, baritone; and Inara Zandmane, piano
  • Ko-ichiro Yamamoto, trombone
  • Yoshikazu Nagai, piano
  • The Greensboro Ballet
  • Gideon Rubin, piano                            and many, many more!
One of the biggest performances (or should I say two!) of the year is our Young Artists Orchestras "Young Artist Concerto Competition Winners" concert.  Divided between two nights, our Young Artists series showcases the best and brightest young musicians the classical world has to offer.  They come from all over the country and the world, from as far away as Israel, Taiwan, Bulgaria, China, Latvia, Switzerland, and Panama to North Carolina, New York, North Dakota, Florida, Texas, California, and Hawaii!
The six Concerto Competition winners for 2010 are:
  • Christopher Smith, bassoon
  • Angelica Hairston, harp
  • Jennifer Vei Gersten, violin
  • William Hueholt, piano
  • Xavier Foley, double bass
  • and Kai-Wei Chen, violin.
As we wind down the 2010 season, we want to thank each and everyone who participated in EMF, whether you attended 1 or 100 of the concerts!  Your support and dedication are what keep the festival and school going year after year.  The upcoming 2011 season will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Eastern Music Festival & School...keep checking the blog, facebook and twitter for updates throughout the next few months!
